Magnetic resonance imaging or MRI is a state-of-the-art equipment examining the body, especially nervous system structures such as the brain and spine.
With an MRI machine we can achieve multi-planar, very detailed images to diagnose illnesses in a non-invasive, pain free and radiation free fashion. A short episode of general anesthesia is required for animals to conduct an MRI study, just like for human babies.
High field MRI provides extraordinary image quality, image resolution, and much decreased scan time and anesthesia time compared to low field magnets. High field MRI offers several different ways to look into the body using various sequences designated to various illnesses Just a few examples are ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes, neurodegenerative diseases, differentiating different types of tumors, congenital malformations, inflammatory and infectious diseases.
MRI is the main diagnostic modality in human and veterinary neurology/neurosurgery, but it can be utilized in other soft tissue (internal organs, neck, ear canal…) and orthopedic (joints, ligaments) conditions.
Emergency Care
Emergency situations affecting our animals often arise without warning. While most pet owners do everything they can to provide a safe and secure environment for their best friend, there are some situations that can’t be predicted or prevented. From visible trauma caused by dog bites, fights or being hit by a car to pets exhibiting unusual behaviors or symptoms, we diagnose and treat the underlying problems to ease their pain and put your animal on the path to recovery.
Surgery and Neurology
The Veterinary Emergency Referral Center is the most advanced surgery center in Northwest Florida, staffed by a caring support team trained to use our state-of-the-art technology. From our clean and comfortable waiting room to the paw-friendly heated floors in our recovery ward, our entire facility is designed to keep you and your pet as stress-free as possible.
Unlike human patients, animals cannot answer questions about how they’re feeling or what is causing their distress. In fact, most dogs and cats instinctively hide outward signs of injury or disease! That’s why it is so important to have thorough diagnostic tests and accurate images of your pet’s internal organs and structures to identify injuries or signs of disease. At the Veterinary Emergency Referral Center, we have the equipment to perform a wide range of medical imaging services for pets. From digital X-Rays, endoscopy, and fluoroscopy imaging modalities to ultrasounds and echocardiograms, we have the technology and know-how to see the details of trauma and internal injuries. We also perform services not found at most veterinarian offices such as CT scans, MRI scans, and myelograms.
"I had to take my boy for an ultrasound as his vet and I had exhausted every avenue of care we could come up with as he had decided not to eat, and this had gone on for two weeks.. watching him everyday, I was not expecting a good prognosis.. these folks are wonderful.. from the front desk, to the techs, to the doctor that cared for us.. having worked in the medical field serving humans, I had a sense of where this would go, and I was correct.. and although it was a difficult decision, and much conversation between his doctor and I, I came to the right decision for us. I say all this because not once did I feel rushed.. they allowed me to take as much time as I needed, to weigh the pros and cons of the options offered, the warmth and compassion they showed towards me went a long way to ease my mind.. I can’t speak highly enough of their ethic.. I’m grateful that my personal vet chose to refer me to them.."
